Treatments consist of short bursts of very bright light directly to the skin. This feels like a "snapping rubber band" or brief sting on the skin surface and anesthesia is usually not needed. Computer-driven programs guide the proper wavelengths, energies and pulses. Bruising is minimal and scarring is rare. A key feature of the PhotoDerm® is the large "spot" size – 8 mm x 35 mm (1/3 x 1 and 1/3 inches). This large spot size makes it possible to treat large areas, such as portwine stains and multiple leg veins, quickly.
