Analox Lactate Analyzer  Product Detail
Model: LM5

The laboratory measurement of L-lactate has until recent times been difficult and time consuming. Analox Instruments has been involved in the manufacture of lactate analyzers for clinical and sports science applications for over 20 years and now offers a dedicated lactate analyzer, the Model LM5, for the dairy and food & beverage industries.

The LM5 is both simple to operate and very fast, with results printed out within 20 seconds of sample injection. It employs sophisticated enzymatic oxygen-rate technology, yet operation is effected just by the use of simple YES and NO keys following prompts from the display. The LM5 is available in mains powered or fully portable rechargeable battery versions.

Application:

The LM5 Lactate Analyzer as a Milk Quality Monitor:

The determination of lactate in milk and milk products is a rapid indicator of milk quality. It can be used for monitoring process operations and checking raw milk supplies.

Lactate testing is very fast (unlike bacteriological tests), highly specific (only the natural L-lactic acid is measured) and quantitatively accurate. Fresh milk typically has a lactate concentration of only 1-3mg/dl but with age lactate values increase rapidly. Soured milk can give values in excess of 400mg/dl. It is thus a very sensitive quality indicator.

Analytical Performance (Clinical)
  • Accuracy - Method Comparison

    • Plasma, vs Boehringer UV

      • n = 20, r = 0.997

      • y = 0.967x + 0.003mmol/L

    • Whole blood (non-lysed), vs YSI 23L

      • n = 56, r = 0.998, y = 1.017x – 0.087mmol/L

    • Whole blood (lysed), vs Sigma UV

      • n = 24, r = 0.996, y = 0.992x – 0.049mmol/L

  • Accuracy - Recovery Data

    • Plasma, mean 99.25% (96-104%)

      range 2.5 – 10.0mmol/L

    • Whole blood, 97% (88-104%)

      range 3.5 – 11.0mmol/L

  • Precision

    • Plasma, n = 30

      CV = 0.6% at 10.0mmol/L

    • Whole blood, n = 22

      CV = 1.6% at 5.0mmol/L

  • Linearity

    • 0 – 10mmol/L for 5 µl sample
