With the revolutionary integration of biochemical and silicon chip technologies, the System achieves previously unattainable miniaturization of sophisticated components that provides clinicians a truly portable, nearly instantaneous blood analyzer with no sacrifice in accuracy and reliability. To meet the needs of the office laboratory, a variety of sensor configurations make it possible to perform a number of critical care assays: electrolytes, general chemistries, blood gases and hematology. The i-STAT System incorporates everything needed to perform blood analysis at the patient’s side. Single-use, disposable test cartridges and a micro-processor controlled, handheld analyzer allow true mobility to all areas of the office where the immediacy of test results is clinically valuable. A portable analyzer and printer will allow all patient information obtained at the patient’s side to be printed on demand with most results being reported in just over 2 minutes. This allows the clinician to make informed treatment decisions faster, enhancing patient care and staff productivity. The portable, hand held i-STAT System eliminates the need for multiple analyzers to perform a wide range of test. The i-Stat enables the clinician to quickly assess metabolic conditions, monitor renal function, oxygen therapy or medications, and provide clinical data without leaving the patient's side. A broad range of laboratory tests are available in a variety of panel configurations that include: pH, PCO2 PO2, activated clotting time (ACT), PT, glucose, lactate, creatinine, sodium, potassium, chloride, ionized calcium, urea nitrogen (BUN), hematocrit and various calculated parameters. The testing process is contained in a single-use disposable cartridge that self-calibrates miniaturized sensors upon use. The unique technology also eliminates maintenance and reduces the complexity of performing quality control. Just 2-3 drops of fresh whole blood is all that is required, and the portable, battery-powered analyzer displays quantitative test results in just over 2 minutes. The i-STAT System is currently in use in more than 2000 hospitals in the United States. The i-STAT 1 handheld system performs a comprehensive panel of critical tests. Utilizing self-contained test cartridges, along with the Precision PCx and PCx Plus glucose test strips, the i-STAT 1 system delivers lab-accurate testing for Blood Gases, Electrolytes, Chemistries, Coagulation, Hematology, Glucose, and Cardiac Markers (cTnI).
